What is cultural heritage narrator?

Posted at the sites with cultural heritage, he/she facilitates cultural experience and understanding for the domestic and foreign tourists on cultural assets such as ancient palaces, temples, ethnic customs, intangible cultural assets, historical relics, natural monuments as well as regional culture.
 
How and where can you meet cultural heritage narrator?
At present, 68 narrators are active at 17 sites with cultural heritage on the weekend and weekdays especially on Wednesday and Thursday from February to December and whoever visits the below mentioned sites, he/she can receive free services from the narrator with the information and guide for cultural relics.
Free narrating services is provided from 10 AM to 6 PM (5 PM in winter) and when there is a group of tourist with more than 10 persons, you can request tourism department for the service by cultural heritage narrator via making a reservation in advance at Tel. No. 429-3383 and Fax. No. 429-3339.

How are cultural heritage narrators selected?

 

 As a citizen residing in Daegu city, he/she is a university graduate of the related major with basic knowledge and understanding of Korean historic relics and culture among the retired educators, local historians, and housewives. Also, among those who maintain cultural heritages with extensive knowledge on cultural assets and fluency in foreign languages such as English, Japanese and Chinese including the descendants , they are recruited publicly through reviewing personal vita and interview and selected in 2001, 2002, and 2003 for three times. After receiving professional education from the distinguished educational institutions, 68 narrators positioned in 17 tourist attractions are actively serving their duties.
 
What are the activities for cultural heritage narrators ?

 

 They attempt to increase interest and understanding on cultural assets in Korea and to provide memorable experiences for the domestic and foreign tourists visiting cultural and historic spots via detailed and precise explanation.
Through the narration in depth on corresponding cultural assets and regional culture, the narrators will contribute to publicize the essence of tour in Daegu for domestic and foreign tourists. .
Also, they make an effort consistently to enhance qualification as the narrator for cultural heritage through continuous maintenance education, field study for the sites with historic relics and various cultural curriculum while taking a lead in publicizing the excellency of Korean cultural heritage and drawing citizens’ attention and affection for our culture and history.
